First Trip In Retirement

It took us some time before we could start our travels.  It wasn't fun moving from a fully furnished house to a fully furnished small house.  The Salvation Army and our kids lucked out!!

Our destination was Arizona to meet up with the "BLENDERS". We traveled about 300 miles a day stopping at Bakersfield the first night.  The RV campsite was amongst a true orange grove!    We were allowed to pick bags and bags of oranges.  We then bought a juicer and proceeded to overdose on OJ .

Our second stop was Needles.  Why would anyone want to stop in Needles?  It has an Elks RV campground!!  $15 an night and $1.50 tacos, $2 beers, What more could you want! Hopefully you don't need groceries as there is NO grocery store in town.

We reached Yuma, where we met up with the Blenders and stayed a week at Fortuna De Oro.  Routine was a walk in the AM and cocktails at 4........,hard life.

Went across the border at Algodones Mexico.  Tons of folks would cross the border every day for dental work, cheap glasses and drugs without scripts.  This is the first time Kent has eaten a meal in Mexico without getting sick.  The restaurant was very Americanized.  They cross the border to buy their food and produce at Costco!! Very Safe...

After a week we hit the road for a GoodSam rally at the Phoenix Raceway.  9 rigs traveled in a caravan to the rally.  By entering together, we got to park together. We had electricity, but no water or sewer.  We were only able to take military showers!!
Phoenix International Raceway

There were about 2500 rigs here.  This was our second rally.  More money was spent here on RV necessities.

Next stop was Tucson.  The group split up.   Only the Jewells and the Kirbys headed South to Tucson.  We stayed in a Funky but fun RV Park called Desert Trails.  It was for 45yrs and above only.  No Kids!  But we could have dogs.

Our sites were wonderful.  We were right along the ridge with lots of cactus and birds.  There were lots of hiking and biking trails.  Beautiful spot..  There was lots of entertainment...From Country Western singing to Disc Jockey music and dancing.  Even free wine!

Tucson Sunset
We were real busy sightseeing.  We went to the  Desert Museum, the Pima Air Museum and the Saguaro National Park, and the nearby Petroglyphs, made by the Hohokam Indians.  The Desert Museum was wonderful.  The had trained predator birds that flew directly over your heads....Incredible.

Rattlesnake Hill

The Pima Air Museum took us all day and we still didn't see all it had to offer.

Pima Air Museum

Guess what I did???  Golfed!!  18 holes too.  Didn't keep score, but did better than expected.  At least I completed the game.

We drove South and headed to Tumacacori where we ate in a Mexican restaurant called Wisdoms. Good Mexican food and their specialty was a fruit burrito for dessert.

We left Tucson after a week, but we weren't able to see everything.  We will be back..

Mesa was our next stop.  We stayed at the Mesa Spirit RV Resort.  Nice amenities, but the sites were way too small.  We won't be back...Loved Superstition Mountain.  There is a wonderful camp ground we hope to stay at next year!

Busy here too.  Jackie taught me how to make a blog.  Went to the Mesa Flea Market...HUGH. Look  what we got at the Flea Market.

.More golf  and sightseeing.  Here we were able to get plenty of pool time, weather 85.

Met up with Kelli and John.  We all went to the Organ Stop Pizza place in Mesa.  Everyone should go to this place at least once,  **Click on the underlined words above to go to that web sites.

Sadly we had to start heading home.  We stayed at the Lake Havasu State Park
